Our world has moved to the digital age where most people you want to form a relationship with can happen online without the need of talking to them physically.
Tsuki ga Kirei, gives us similarities or what is almost like a LINE advertisement for users to install to their phones. The story is quick and simple so far, both people get embarrassed by being in front of people or each other and end up talking over LINE. This is probably one of the more common ways people like to converse nowadays. I speak nowadays cause I too am guilty of talking to someone I like over text.
The story:
Story wise, there’s not much to it but, the simplicity of it is what makes me want to watch more. It seems to be a standard romance anime between two people who can’t really talk to one another unless its online. I mean they do still have their small chit chats but it’s awkward between the two.
Characters:
It seems to come around that you have one person good a something in anime these days. The character Kotarou Azumi is a novelist who writes books but is too embarrassed to show anyone of his friends. The character Akane Mizuno is one of the aces on the track team but becomes nervous when she doesn’t have her “potato”, sounds weird doesn’t it? All of this comes to together at some point in the two episodes I have watched. They both have their own group of friends who tend to tease each other about what makes them embarrassed, but its really all joking between them. The two of them are in their third year of middle school but the atmosphere feels more like a high school environment. There’s a sense of maturity in this one. Both the characters are cute in their own way and it’s great to see that there isn’t a lot of exaggerated emotions and sound effects in this.
With that said,
Music/Sound:
The soundtrack sounds great, it’s calm and really fits into the series and settings that they have. The OP/ED are both sung by the same person Nao Touyama (who does a lot of extensive voice acting herself). The sounds are crisp, but at times they can be a little bit off-putting such as when someone is running, it would sound like they’re going a bit faster than what they are animated to. But that doesn’t really bug me that much though. As for the voice acting itself, it is wonderful, they didn’t really use voice actors with a lot of recognition and went for less known ones with fewer roles in the seiyuu industry. But to be fair, the voice acting that is done by almost every character is excellent and sounds natural.
Animation:
The animation is really nice and reminds of a Makoto Shinkai film in a sense, it is more of a lower budget animation job but they don’t skip out on the backgrounds and the drawings of the character’s themselves. Everything looks appealing to the eye, the food, the scenery, the character portraits. My brother told me that it does look like the same people who did Wolf Children. I completely agree with him that it does look like it but its Studio Feel who is doing the animation. Their most recent works are KonoBiju, Dagashi Kashi and even Da Capo II. I would say in those that the animation are pretty great and stay true to the source material. But Tsuki ga Kirei is an original title so it’s going to maybe be a good one. Once I’m done the series, I will post my final thoughts.
Overall, this series looks really promising and I know I’ll always be coming back for more to watch. Excited for the next episode!
